LOVE COLOURS

Do you ever stop and think about how much is a child's painting worth?

As artists we have no-one to blame but ourselves. Censorship comes entirely and remorselessly from within, from within ourselves, as you yourself stand in the way of your own work. No-one else does. Why would they? I do love to be loved yet I'll take on anyone who tries to prevent me from doing what I want to do because I only care if you care.

Hey William,

Florian Hecker directed me to your blog, and I'm really glad he did. I like your meditations and asides, really great, compelling and provocative. A refreshing discovery. Oh, and your observation on auto-censorship is absolutely true, only the self dictates constraints...Kill your Oblivion, Shock Yourself True et al...

Thanks and hope this finds you well,

Yeh, thanks for your welcome amigo. I'm a firm subscriber to the idea of autonomous pragmatism - we ultimately answer only to ourselves, so censorship is a bullshit smokescreen and ultimately counterproductive in that as a constraint it fuels creativity rather than mutes it... But yeh, essentially, all constraints are self-imposed...based entirely on how we react to whatever circumstances, and with what degree of resourcefulness...hehe...

Take care and be well,

Well, I think one of the worst things an artist can do is create something with an expected audience in mind. Bret Easton Ellis likened writing to masturbation and selfishness, a sentiment I can support. There should be something in it that borders on solipisism, so that the true voice (whatever that is) can shine forth. Or am I being idealistic?

Chhildrens' art is wonderful. Recently I've been looking at a lot of childrens' photography too, and trying to learn/unlearn stuff from that.
