INFINITE EXTRAVAGANCE

When was the last time you ever had your mind blown just by something you drank?

One of my favourite haunts in this wonderful city here, is located on the Royal Mile, where for a price they will make you a cup of the chocolate as featured in the book (and film) Chocolat. Just as the Aztecs might have drunk it. In other words, totally pure 100% txocoatl and with hot hot chillis. About as far removed from that sickly Cadbury's muck that you could ever get. It's both so shamefully and so shamelessly good, and will take you to places so fucking amazing, I'm almost surprised it's legal.

I may be going to Edinburgh next week for a day visit - if so I'll be sure to try that delicacy out. What's the place called if you don't mind sharing?

Le Plaisir Du Chocolat - enjoy.

William, you've just reminded me of the desperate need to dispatch myself to Chicago forthwith. My dear friend Elizabeth made a drink similar to this several years ago, and if what you've been delighting in is half as enchanting, I know all too well the pleasures of which you speak. Sublime Aztec Genius! Time to search for authentic recipes. Cheers!

Sounds seductive and enticing Mr Bennett...hmmm..I've tried raw natural chocolate, which is just coca and cocoa butter (I believe...)...erm...however, the most obvious answer to your question (and an opportunely-timed question it is) is the pint of boiled up San Pedro cactus I knocked back on tuesday. My second ever acquaintance with mescaline, and oh yes, it blew my mind...

But I'm anxious to check out this pure chocolate drink...

Thanks,

Nick.

I once drunk snake venom wine mixed with blood in Beijing...........it was mixed with pure spirit............the locals swore by it to increase the sexual prowess............
About the only thing I was impressed with prowess wise was my ability to get back to the hotel after 4 glasses of the stuff.

Shouldn't an asceticist be denying himself such extravagances?!

I went to Edinburgh on Friday and visited Plaisir with a friend to try the delights of 'Infinite Extravangance'. Definitely the strongest drink I've tried. The taste is so excessively potent - on first sip it felt like a minus taste if such a thing exists - that I was bouncing off the walls before I reached halfway. I did finish it eventually and afterwards had an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and clarity. My friend went for the less threatening Tanzania, much more desirable to my palate I must admit, but I recommend trying 100% cocoa, your brain won't come down for a day.

Only a God would let a culture like the Incans suffer this concoction for their beliefs!

Pretty much as I remember my virginal visit too, John, the Tanzania was recommended as a more gentle introduction but life's too short for gentle introductions.

Delighted to hear how much you enjoyed the experience.
