SUBSTANTIALS #03

The smell of fresh ink on a page is a favourite, and it was especially exciting to finally receive a copy of the Substantials #03 book in the mail this morning - a lovely way to remember what was a big highlight of 2007 for me. As expected, Akiko Miyake and the CCA in Kitakyushu have done an exceptional job with the project, applying maximum care to the lay-out, photography, and quality of transcripts.

Hello stranger!
Speaking of highlights, I for one would love to see your top highlights list of 2007....(musical,literary or otherwise) either way, consider this a formal request ;)

In a mild bit of synchronicity, I was just leafing through the first issue of Substantials (scraping up research for an ever-expanding nightmare of a book) before navigating here for my break...

If you don't have that one it is highly amusing reading Karkowski's cranky dismissals of art school, music magazines etc.

Anyway I would definitely be interested in seeing how you interact with the intimate workshop setup they have there in KitaKyushu, and am also curious to read some rare clarification from Russell Haswell on his work- his UPIC-based disc w/ Florian Hecker is certainly among **my** 'top highlights list of 2007'.

Karkowski's chapter in #01 is indeed a stand-out - I think you'll also enjoy Mikawa's too, he delivered the whole thing in English and it was most impressive

Is it worth trying to get a hold of issues 1 and 2 then?

D'ya think the CCA will still have them on sale?
