SHABHU SHABHU

24 hours on 3 planes, JAL or not, and this head's spinning; don't even know what planet this is, let alone the day of the week or the time. Wonderful experience at the highly impressive CCA in Kitakyushu, with some extraordinary Japanese hospitality that could make a grown man pathetically weep with joy; Russell and Mikawa-san in top form throughout (and of course on the night of the performances); and to complete Akiko's magical alchemy, Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla were also a total revelation.

William- Fukuoka-ken / KitaKyushu is definitely on the rise in terms of good places to perform, it seems. Tokyo is fast losing its cultural monopoly to smaller and less conservative towns, and it's about time. I didn't see any pictures of your event posted at www.cca-kitakyushu.org (most recent thing that even came close was a lecture by CM Von Hausswolff), but I'm assuming that the Russell you mentioned was Russell Haswell, and that Mikawa was Toshiji Mikawa? Just a wild guess.....

Thomas, your wild guess is a good one - CMVH's lecture was part of the same series, as far as I know.

William, I was wondering if it would be possible if you could maybe expand a little on the content of your talks.

I've always wondered what subjects you talk about at these type of events and the kind of questions that people ask you.

it varies, Walter: from music-related topics (as with this one) to other specialised linguistic or communications-based topics

Quite a surprise to read your mention of Allora and Calzadilla. Their work is wonderful and they live here in my island, Puerto Rico. My friend Julio Morales used to work with them, a couple years ago. I'll look them up again.

Looking forward to your next album.

Respect,
- Jorge
