TELL ME YOU'VE BEEN BAD. NICE AND CLEARLY.
Wow. He's done his homework. I've managed to stay largely and purposively ignorant of this circus. Walking down a busy street in Bristol months ago, I saw the photocopies of the child's face with the mantra 'look into my eyes', plastered all over newsagent windows; the stirrings of a labyrinthine, viral mystery cult rich in signs and correspondences... I felt that if I dipped my toe in I would almost certainly drown along with millions of others. Is it too late to join in, do you think?
The last day or two have been interesting, what with suspicion now falling on the mother. The whole story starts to play out like your 9pm ITV1 drama.I'm reminded of k-punk's observing that "The child's face is the ultimate ethical trap". What does it all mean?
I had my doubts right from the outset of this case. Indeed, the mother's only a suspect at this stage, but nothing would surprise me. What's especially interesting (and questionable) is the case's high profile. Hundreds of thousands of children go missing every year, yet poor Madelaine's disappearance has received far more coverage than the vast majority of them. The only real consolation in all this is that, if it transpires Madelaine's parents were involved with her vanishing, she's probably better off without them. I only hope she didn't suffer much. And I'm sure my use of the past tense is fairly accurate...
Very wierd. I found your blog through Ben Fairhalls blog which I found through my obsession with the Madeleine McCann case. Are you in the group Whitehouse? If so, I think I photographed your group in a London basement sometime in the early 80's. I think the performance was stopped... Did you all wear long leather coats? Possibly 1984 cos i'd already photographed the Einsturzende Neubaten gig at the ICA, and the Test tube gig which was stopped by the police. I was taking pictures for the NME at the time...
@marmite_loveryes, we managed to get copies of a few of those pics (if they're the same ones); lovely to make the reacquaintance (BF's blog is indeed wonderful)
hi thanks for your reply, tried replying before but it went wrong somehow. I must dig out those pictures and send them onto my music library if you are still going strong!By the way I attended the LSE conference McCanns and the Media last night. If you are interested in reading my report its on my blog:http://travelswithmyteenager.blogspot.com/
Also can't seem to view Bens blog anymore. Any idea how to be invited or whatever you have to do?
